About Thread by Thread

Born from a love of fashion and a passion for community, Thread by Thread is changing lives one stitch at a time.

Thread by Thread exists to address two critical issues at once:
clothing insecurity and textile waste.

We teach underprivileged girls hands-on upcycling skills—transforming donated clothing into fresh, wearable pieces. Through our workshops, participants gain sewing techniques, creative confidence, and a sustainability mindset. But more than that, they learn the power of giving back.

Every garment they create is donated to individuals and families who lack access to clean, appropriate clothing for work, school, or daily life. Locally in Miami in underserved communities, we're proving that fashion can be a force for good.

Meet Alessandra

I'm Alessandra Boucher, and I've been in love with fashion for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Miami, I spent my childhood sketching designs, altering clothes, and reimagining how fabric could tell a story. But as I got older, I started to see the other side of fashion—the waste, the inequity, the way so many people go without while so much is thrown away.

Thread by Thread was born from a simple question: What if we could teach young women to create clothing instead of just consuming it? What if we could turn discarded garments into something beautiful—and use them to serve people who truly need them?

I launched this project because I believe underprivileged girls deserve access to creative education and the chance to see themselves as makers and change-agents. I've seen firsthand how powerful it is when a young woman realizes she can take something old, transform it with her own hands, and then give it to someone in need. That moment changes everything.

Thread by Thread isn't just about upcycling clothes. It's about upcycling potential—in the girls we teach, in the communities we serve, and in the way we all think about fashion, waste, and giving back."

Our Core Values

  • Sustainability First

We keep clothing out of landfills by teaching creative reuse and upcycling techniques. Every piece we transform is one less item contributing to textile waste, and one more step toward a circular fashion economy.

  • Girl Empowerment

We equip underprivileged girls with hands-on skills, creative confidence, and the belief that they can make a tangible difference in the world. Our workshops aren't just about sewing, they're about building leaders.

  • Community Impact

Every piece we create serves communities facing clothing insecurity. We believe in the power of giving back, and we teach our participants that their creativity has a real-world impact.
