Empowering Girls Through Upcycled Clothing and Community Impact
Thread by Thread collects gently used clothing to host workshops where I teach girls how to upcycle pieces, fostering creativity, sustainability, and essential life skills.
Why Thread by Thread Matters
We collect gently used clothing and teach underprivileged girls how to upcycle these pieces into fresh, wearable designs. Through hands-on workshops, participants learn the skills of sewing, creativity, resourcefulness, and the importance of giving back. The newly transformed garments are then donated to local communities in Miami facing clothing insecurity.
How We Turn Clothing Into Community Change
Clothing insecurity affects millions of families—people who lack access to clean, weather-appropriate clothing for work, school, or daily life. At the same time, 85% of textiles end up in landfills every year. Thread by Thread addresses both crises at once.
We collect gently used clothing and teach underprivileged girls how to repurpose each piece into something new and meaningful. Through hands-on workshops, participants learn sewing skills that strengthen hand–eye coordination, build focus, and encourage creativity—all while fostering resourcefulness and a deeper understanding of the importance of giving back. The newly transformed garments are then donated to communities facing clothing insecurity in Miami.
Collect Donations
You donate gently used clothing, fabrics, and materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. We accept everything from jeans and t-shirts to fabric scraps—if it's clean and gently worn, we can transform it.
Teach & Transform
We bring underprivileged girls together in hands-on upcycling workshops where they learn sewing techniques, creative design, and sustainability principles. Under Alessandra's guidance, they transform donated pieces into something new—a jacket becomes a vest, jeans become a tote bag, scraps become art.
Give Back
Every upcycled piece is donated to individuals and families facing clothing insecurity—locally in Miami and internationally in underserved communities. The girls who created these garments experience the joy of giving back, knowing their creativity directly helps someone in need.
See the Impact in Action
Every piece tells a story of creativity, sustainability, and hope. Here's what we've created together.
Empowering Girls,
Supporting Communities
Thread by Thread serves two communities at once: the young women who learn with us, and the families who receive what they create.
The clothing they create goes to communities experiencing clothing insecurity, families who struggle to afford weather-appropriate clothes for work or school, individuals experiencing homelessness, and underserved populations locally and abroad. We've partnered with organizations in Miami and shipped donations to communities in Africa, ensuring that every piece finds a home where it's truly needed.
